Mens Hairloss FAQs

Male pattern baldness, also known as androgenetic alopecia and male pattern alopecia, is caused by an enhanced sensitivity to the male hormones, androgens, in various parts of the scalp. It is a natural part of the aging process and whether or not you experience it in your lifetime is simply down to genetics.

Unfortunately, the hair loss gene is a dominant one so if it is present in either parent, it will most likely be passed down to you, whether it is from your mother’s or your father’s side. While hair loss can be upsetting and stressful, it may be a small comfort to know that anyone can experience it. Actors Jude Law, John Travolta, Kevin Costner and Tom Hanks, as well as Prince William and football player Wayne Rooney are among the many high profile figures who have thinning hair.

If you have androgenetic alopecia, the earlier you seek treatment the better your chances of slowing down the process or preventing further hair loss. Fortunately, there are various male hair loss treatments available and our consultants will be able to discuss these with you during your free appraisal at the London Centre of Trichology. Briefly, your treatment may consist of any one of the following:

Non Surgical – If herbal based non-surgical treatments are the best option for you, this will consist of a three to six-month course, which can be carried out in the comfort of your own home. You will be monitored with a monthly check-up where you can view images of the treated areas to track your progress.

Replacement Systems  Also known as a weave, this is another non-surgical procedure and the result is a natural looking, full head of hair. The main benefit is that you can change the style, colour or length as often as you want, and it is the quickest way to restore your confidence. Each system is bespoke and we use the most up-to-date American systems for the best possible results.

Surgical – While surgery may seem like a bold move, it is another solution for replacing lost hair which is the preferred option for some men. Our trichologists will talk you through the procedure, so you can make an informed decision on whether it is right for you. If you would prefer not to have surgery, non-surgical options are available.

A hair replacement system or weave is a non-surgical procedure that involves attaching hair extensions to your existing hair. These extensions can be customized to match your natural hair color and style, and can be changed as often as you like.

More than 60% of men will experience some form of hair loss in their lifetime, with most men at least partially bald by the time they reach retirement age.

Yes, if there is an available spot, you can get same day appointment.

The length of a consultation can vary depending on the consultant and the nature of the services being provided. However, most consultations usually last between 30 minutes to an hour.

During a consultation, the consultant will likely ask you questions about your business or situation, your goals, and any challenges you may be facing. They may also ask you about your budget and timeline for completing the project. Based on this information, the consultant will then provide recommendations and suggestions for how they can help you achieve your goals.

Regular check-ups are essential for monitoring your progress and making any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan. Typically, we recommend scheduling a follow-up check-up approximately six weeks after your initial visit. This timeframe allows us to assess the effectiveness of the treatment and address any concerns or questions you may have. Our goal is to ensure that you are on the right track towards achieving your desired hair health outcomes.

At the London Centre of Trichology, we prioritize your hair health and strive to provide comprehensive care. We understand the importance of follow-up check-ups in monitoring your progress and ensuring the effectiveness of your treatment plan.
